Update 2 (11/26/08): I’ve seen some good implementations including the little tagline in the header (works especially well for short blog titles and short taglines) so I’ve decided to offer both versions for download.

Update 1 (11/25/08): Changed the About section in the left sidebar and in the footer to be dynamically generated from your Tumblr {Description} rather than manually entered. I removed the little tagline in the header because it wasn’t working with long titles and/or long descriptions. I’m still messing with the header, however, this version is pretty airtight for now. Lastly, I extended the footer height by another 50px to accomodate long {Descriptions} and other footer content.

Wakalixes is a simple, clean, and customizable Tumblr theme by Andrea Mignolo. It is released under a Creative Commons license, which means you are free to use it, change it, and play with it, but be sure to give attribution, keep it non-commercial, and share anything you create based on it. After all, sharing is caring.

To use Wakalixes, just download, unzip, and copy what’s in wakalixes.zip and paste it into the custom HTML field in the THEME section of your customization screen.

Each type of media has a different meta tag, containing a small icon and the date it was posted. The backgrounds and text of both the icon and the dates can be customized, which might be fun for those of you with a great sense of color. Of course, the rest of the colors can be customized as well, but I thought I’d point out that extra bit.

Currently reBlogging and group posts haven’t been added. If there is any interest, just let me know. Bugs, requests, problems, and general greetings can be sent to hello@andreamignolo.com.

*** PLEASE NOTE ***

In order to make icons display properly, be sure that your browser is set to UTF-8 when copying this theme for your Tumblr blog! The icons will not show up correctly if copied when your browser is set to Western encoding! In Firefox, this setting can be found in View -> Character Encoding -> UTF-8.

Wakalixes can be downloaded in .zip format here if you are still having problems with proper icon display. Simply unzip the file, open wakalixes.html in a text editor, and copy the theme over.

Instructions for the Adventurous

Suck the theme down to your computer. It’s waiting for you at the link above.
Jump to your Tumblr Dashboard and click the “Customize” link.
Select the “Theme” tab
Click on the “Use custom HTML” link.
The screen will change to show you the actual source code for your current theme. Delete all of it.
Copy all the text from the downloaded theme file and paste it into the white text area.
Click the “Save changes” button

UPDATE 1: There’s only one file to copy and paste now. Removed search box. Added rounded corners.

To see the design live go to the theme home here.

To install the theme:
1. Download the zip file containing all the necessary files.
2. Copy the contents of the “royale theme code.txt”.
3. Go to your dashboard, then Customize > Theme > “Custom Theme”
4. Paste into the text box.
5. Save changes.

The images used in the theme have been provided please host them somewhere and update the link to the images in the style sheet accordingly.

Royale has been tested for consistency in IE7, Safari, Firefox. The background is rendered a little slowly on IE7, but it still works.

This theme is very dirty in terms of code and I’ll sort it out when i can; for now though…enjoy!

Questions? Comments? You can leave feedback here. Feel free to use/modify this theme as you wish, but just keep the credit attribution intact.

As you may see, the theme has been updated. Now the sIFR-generated titles’ letters can have accents, the kerning of the main header (the name of your tumblr) letters has been fixed and a few minor changes that improve visivility of the theme have been made. :D
